Oh how I love to play with a sprinkle of retro and vintage items amongst a more modern cuisine.

Cantonment Street, Fremantle. Short Term Accom.
Last year I had a wonderful opportunity to design and apply hands-on style at a wonderful warehouse'esk short-term holiday rental property situated in the heart of Fremantle, Western Australia.

The property comprises of 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen, an ENORMOUS living/dining area and a balcony/bbq area.
The owners are two very inspiring and generous people, based in Fremantle. They are a husband and wife team that are incredibly busy, each touring in their own right as international musicians, environmentalists, parents of two spunky kidlets and are all round very cool folk!

When they approached me to undertake this project, I was hooked instantly by the brief - which was very clear but also beautifully (and rarely) providing quite a significantly broad interpretation. In a nutshell the specs rang bells of something to the tone of 'artistic, functional, colourful, quality, well lived in, comfy, homely yet professional....'

Upon undertaking the project, I received photos of the empty property, a floorplan and a plane ticket. Off I set to jump into a whirlwind of serious hard work and a delicious journey.

With a very tight budget and the short time frame to get this project completed (a holiday booking had already been locked in) the scope of this project became even more apparent when I walked though the doors upon my arrival. It reaffirmed that it was to be a great challenge... a challenge I took with on with vigor and pride (oh, and an existing fractured left foot to hobble/burn around in a black terminator boot!)

The instinctual design/decorating vibe on the apartment didn't come instantly to me (which it usually does) so I sat in the largest room with pen, paper and design hat firming pulled on and furiously finessed some of my intitial ideas. Now to hit the shops.... and source an extra person to help me with the hands on work in order to meet the deadline. And along came Luc Bourgeois with his amazing eye(s), hands and attitude to life. He became a trusty worker and a dear friend...Without Luc's incredible help, it simply and absolutely wouldn't have been possible to finish this project on time, let alone with so much enjoyment and similar appreciation. (We ate many a vegemite, cheese and avocado sandwich for breakfast, lunch and dinner...and certainly introduced a new level of appreciation for gin and tonic in the late hours of the night upon exhaustion when we were still forging ahead!). AND thank you to my awesome boyfriend/partner in crime who talked me to sleep on the phone every night AND who flew over for a weekend to help me aswell! You are my rock! (is this starting to sound like an Oscar's speech?!)

The job got completed in a whirlwind sleep deprived 11 days...

It was an incredible experience, probably one of the hardest to date, but extremely rewarding personally and professionally. The owners were really happy to leave some small things incomplete (due to the timeframe) - but i just couldn't bear to leave anything undone - I yearned to leave it in a state of bliss of completion but also so I could take away these photos for myself to reflect on.

I hope you enjoy taking a look at the photos.... I'm sorry there are so many, but I really did cull as much as I possibly could...

Oh yes, of course, if you are ever interested in short term rental at this apartment, click here to go to the website that takes bookings. Go on - spoil yourself!
